Case Studies
Case Study 1 - Program Spotlight – Department of Defense Naval Projects | SeaLandAire Technologies
At SeaLandAire Technologies, I led the successful execution of six interconnected Department of Defense (DoD) programs—each strategically focused on next-generation Sonobuoy systems and Uncrewed Surface Vehicle (USV) platform integration. Across all initiatives, we achieved 100% fulfillment of program objectives, consistently delivering on schedule, cost, and scope benchmarks.
My role centered on cross-functional program leadership and execution excellence. I managed multidisciplinary teams and coordinated with internal engineering leads and external government stakeholders, including Navy sponsors and senior DoD staff. Through clear and consistent communication of program financials and performance metrics—such as Earned Value KPIs—I ensured full transparency and sustained alignment with mission-critical requirements.
Key contributions included:
• Leading design reviews and system integration planning across sonar, RF communications, embedded systems, and mechanical engineering domains.
• Maintaining Cost Performance Index (CPI) and Schedule Performance Index (SPI) metrics well above 1.0, reflecting strong efficiency and cost control.
• Authoring and presenting successful funding proposals that secured continued investment in advanced defense technologies.
• Building trusted relationships with Navy sponsors, resulting in increased technical credibility and government confidence in project execution.
A highlight of this program portfolio was the trusted partnership developed with the Advanced Anti-Submarine Warfare Sensors and Processing Lead at the Naval Air Warfare Center Avionics Division (Title only due to Top Secret Clearance). In a formal letter of recommendation (available upon request), she stated:
“Mr. James Dodge has my strongest recommendation. He effectively communicated needs and provided feedback as requested. He went out of his way to ensure the success of the projects he was involved in and looked out for the needs of his entire team. Mr. Dodge was essential in the transition of these projects and continued to promote the technical skills of the company to support the needs of the government. Mr. Dodge will be an asset on any team and provides a well-rounded knowledge base to ensure project/program success.”
This program example showcases my dedication to delivering mission success in high-stakes environments, managing complexity across government-funded R&D efforts, and positioning teams to thrive through strategic leadership and technical integrity.

Case Study 2 - Project Spotlight – Supplier Collaboration & Production Optimization

As the project lead on Project B, I established a strong, solution-oriented partnership with a key parachute supplier experiencing significant performance challenges. Prior to my involvement, the supplier was consistently behind schedule and not engaged in the prototyping process—putting critical project timelines at risk.
Upon taking over, I conducted a thorough analysis of the supplier’s difficulties, identifying design-related obstacles that were impeding efficient production. By working closely with both our internal design team and the supplier’s manufacturing leads, I implemented strategic design adjustments that streamlined fabrication without compromising performance requirements.

These optimizations enabled the supplier to improve turnaround times significantly, resulting in on-time delivery of every required parachute batch throughout the remainder of the project. My proactive approach not only resolved a major bottleneck but also fostered a high-trust, productive relationship that strengthened the overall success of the initiative.

Case Study 3 – Rapid Innovation & Global Collaboration | XNox Emissions Program, Tenneco
At Tenneco, a Fortune 500 company with $8B annual sales, I was entrusted to lead the most high-profile project in the organization’s portfolio: the XNox emissions reduction program. This groundbreaking initiative focused on dramatically lowering NOx emissions in diesel engines, positioning Tenneco at the forefront of clean diesel technology.
For the pivotal market introduction, we partnered with Kubota, Japan’s leading tractor manufacturer, to integrate XNox into their flagship machinery. Despite the program’s significance, the product was not yet at the necessary readiness level to meet the proposed launch schedule.
As program lead, I drew on advanced engineering expertise and strategic problem-solving skills to overcome these hurdles. This included:
• Coordinating intensive, data-driven design reviews with both Tenneco’s R&D teams and Kubota’s engineering leadership.
• Leading on-site collaboration efforts in Japan to secure rapid approval of critical design changes, ensuring stakeholder alignment across continents.
• Driving cross-functional teams to streamline workflows, implement solutions, and track quality metrics in real time.
Through relentless focus, organizational discipline, and a commitment to transparent communication, I orchestrated the complex technical and cultural integration necessary for program success. These efforts resulted in:
• On-time product launch with Kubota, meeting all initial deliverables and exceeding customer expectations.
• Delivery achieved with zero defects at launch, underscoring a commitment to both quality and innovation.
This experience exemplifies my ability to deliver transformative results on a global stage, manage risk under tight timelines, and foster strong, trust-based relationships with international clients and partners.
